Delta has a low cost removeable splitter that you can purchase as a service part from Delta for about $40.00. My policy is that if the guard/splitter can't be used, the riving knife must be on the saw. Of course I broke my own rule, and this resulted in my first and only table saw accident. I had taken the riving knife off my saw temporarily. I had bumped it out of adjustment, and was too lazy to fix it.
